From 01.04.2016 to 30.06.2016, Prof. Dr. Henrik Rother, University of Greifswald, Germany will serve as a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Geosciences of the University of Szczecin. His hosting team will be the Unit of Paleoceanograhy headed by Prof. Dr. A. Witkowski. During his stay Prof. Rother will intensify the long-term co-operative research with the University of Szczecin in the field of Quaternary Geology. The main focus will be here on establishing stratigraphic correlations between glacial records from coastal areas in Poland and Germany and recently recovered drill cores from the Baltic Sea Basin (IODP expedition 347)
During the summer semester of 2016, Prof. Rother will teach a graduate-level course titled “Facies analysis of glacial sediments” to students not only of the Faculty of Geosciences. In the interest of promoting and further developing relations between the University of Szczecin and the University of Greifswald the course will also be open to a student contingent from the University of Greifswald. The course will be integrated into the postgraduate educational program co-ordinated by Prof. Dr. J. Harff.
Prof. Rother’s visit as a furhter step towards a closer cooperation with the University of Greifswald within the framework of our new bi-national MSc. program “Marine and Coastal Geosciences”.
