Alexander von Humboldt, whose 250th birthday we celebrate this year, shaped the image of the natural sciences of his and our time like hardly any other scientist. His work can rightly be regarded as a basis for modern geo-, eco-, and climate sciences. 250 years after its birth, in 2019, major reforms of the scientific landscape take place in Poland, and also the geo- and environmental sciences at the University of Szczecin are being reorganized. The new Institute for Marine and Environmental Sciences, which was founded on October 1, 2019, from parts of the Faculties of Geosciences and Biology, will also refer to Humboldt’s conception of science. In the academic year 2019/2020 the „Szczecin Geoscience Seminars”, which have been held since 2010 at the University of Szczecin successfully, will be dedicated to Humboldt’s work as „Szczecin Alexander-von-Humboldt Seminars”. Once a month, a geoscientist or environmental scientist respectively will give a lecture on a topic that particularly addresses the interdisciplinary and supra-regional approach of Humboldt’s research concept.
Please, find the program for this Winter Semester below and also attached as pdf (that might be printed for information in your institute).
